Jiggered by Jargon
If you find yourself befuddled by all the bonkers jargon you find everywhere these days, help is at hand thanks to a system created over three decades ago by Philip Broughton, an American Public Health official. His ingenious idea gives you an easy way to bullshit with the best of them.
The way the grid works is simple. Take any three-digit number, then select the corresponding buzz-word from each column. For instance 519 gives you:
Responsive organisational contingency
Drop this winning phrase into any report to give it (and you) an aura of decision, insight and authority. Or better still, take my tip and express yourself simply, concisely and more compellingly without resorting to meaningless nonsense.
You’ll stand out from the crowd if you do.
But until that happy day, I’ll leave the final word with Broughton:
“No one will have the remotest idea what you are talking about. But the important thing is that they will never, ever admit it!”
